ChatGPT and Claude are the top two AI assistants in 2026. Both charge $20/mo. Both claim to be the best. After using both daily for 6+ months, here's the honest comparison: which one wins for which task, and whether you need both.
For general use: ChatGPT Plus. For code review and honest feedback: Claude Pro. Most people need only one. I pay for both ($40/mo total) because I write and code daily. For most people, pick one based on your main task: writing and social media → ChatGPT, code review and deep analysis → Claude.
ChatGPT writes better marketing copy, social media posts, and short-form content. It's friendlier, more conversational, and better at matching a casual tone. Claude writes better long-form analysis, essay drafts, and technical documentation. It's less sycophantic (will actually tell you your argument is weak), which makes it better for writing where quality matters over friendliness. For a marketing copywriter: ChatGPT. For a journalist or technical writer: Claude.
