Review of Lovable
Lovable is an AI app builder aimed at non-engineers. You describe what you want in plain English, and it generates a React + Tailwind + Supabase app. Founded in 2024 as GPT Engineer, rebranded to Lovable in 2025, and reportedly hit $30M ARR.
The interface is friendly. No code editor to learn. You just chat. The 'Edit with AI' feature lets you click on any element and describe what to change.
Supabase integration is automatic. Add a database, authentication, and storage with a single checkbox. The generated code works out of the box.
One-click deploy. Your app goes live on a Lovable subdomain. Custom domains available on paid plans.
Good for landing pages. Marketing sites, portfolios, and simple CRUD apps come out looking polished.
Hard to debug when things break. If the AI generates buggy code, you need to either re-prompt or edit the code directly. There's no in-between.
Limited complexity. Complex business logic, custom algorithms, and non-standard features are hard. You're often fighting the AI.
Token costs add up. The free tier is 5 'credits' per day, which is enough for 1-2 prompts. Pro is $25/month for 100 credits.
Code quality is variable. Some outputs are clean React. Others are spaghetti with inline styles and copy-pasted components.
Free: 5 credits/day. Pro: $25/month for 100 credits. Teams: $40/month per user. Enterprise: custom.
Non-engineers, designers, founders who want to prototype without learning to code. Not for engineers who need control.
★ 3.5/5. Genuinely useful for non-coders, but you'll outgrow it. The 'anyone can build' promise is real for simple apps.
