Review of Midjourney v6
Midjourney v6 is the sixth generation of Midjourney's image generation model. Released in late 2024, it remains the most popular AI image generator for artistic and stylized work. The v6 update improved text rendering, photorealism, and prompt understanding.
Artistic quality is unmatched. Midjourney v6 produces images that look like art, not 'AI art'. The composition, lighting, and color grading are better than any competitor.
Style control is deep. You can specify aspect ratio, stylization level, weirdness, variety, and model version. Fine-grained controls for serious creators.
Strong community. The Midjourney Discord is huge, active, and full of inspiration. You can see what others are making and learn prompts.
Web interface is now clean. v6 moved from Discord to a proper web UI. Much easier to use than the old bot workflow.
Text rendering is still weak. Midjourney v6 improved text but it's still hit-or-miss. GPT-4o renders text accurately; Midjourney often garbles it.
It's slow. A single image takes 30-60 seconds. GPT-4o is 10-20 seconds. Flux is 5-10 seconds.
Photorealism is inconsistent. Midjourney excels at stylized work but struggles with realistic photos of people. Face consistency is hit-or-miss.
No free tier. The cheapest plan is $10/month. Flux and GPT-4o have free tiers.
Basic: $10/month for 200 images. Standard: $30/month for 15 GPU hours. Pro: $60/month for 30 GPU hours. Mega: $120/month for 60 GPU hours.
Artists, designers, illustrators, anyone who values aesthetic quality. Not for those needing fast photorealism or accurate text.
★ 4.5/5. Still the best for artistic image generation. Worth the price for serious visual work.
